PCT 50 Mile Needs New Race Directors for 2011

Taking place on the beautiful Pacific Crest Trail, this ultra is a gem in the ORRC calendar, but needs your help! Current wonderful race directors, Mercedes Atwood and Jerry Mark, cannot continue after 2010 and we need two or three volunteers to step up and take this race on. If you’ve participated in this event, or volunteered, you know how special it is, but it takes a committed group of people to coordinate all the aid stations and volunteers. As an added incentive to encourage new volunteers, Oregon Road Runners' Club (ORRC) has decided that any ORRC member who volunteers as a race director will be provided complimentary registration to any ORRC event in the year they are a race director (or co-director), and all race directors will receive a free bright neon yellow vest to wear at their event. Way cool! But Wait! There’s more! If you volunteer you can also get a free registration in the upcoming ORRC Race Director Workshop taking place on Saturday, November 6th. Please contact current race directors Mercedes Atwood or Jerry Mark at pct50@orrc.net or Valerie Pratt at Valerie@prattweller.com.

Race directors for 2010 were: Mercedes Atwood and Jerry Mark.

Scott McQueeney Memorial

As of April 2009, we had fulfilled our quest on collecting donations towards the Scott Queeney Memorial. While we planned on providing a new bridge in Forest Park, the situation changed with the Park and Recreation Offices, and we had decided to instead have a memorial plaque installed in McDonald Forest Park in Corvallis, OR, at the last bridge Scott crossed in his last race, the McDonald Forest 50k, before he died. The money that was left over from this project was donated to the Forest Park Conservancy. We are grateful to all who contributed to the memorial, which will help us remember this great advocate for trails and ultra running.

We are still conducting our fund raiser to support the Forest Park Conservancy. We invite all 2009 PCT50 participants to make a tax-deductible donation to this organization directly by visitng www.forestparkconservancy.org/support, or by writing a check to Forest Park Conservancy and leaving it with us at the race. Thank you!
